Working within the photography industry for over 15 years, I have very happily found myself on the digital side of the industry.

I have worked as everything from a studio assistant, lighting assistant and tech, high end retoucher, photographer and digital tech. You might say a jack of all trades, but now definitely a master of one.

Born and raised in Ireland, and with an honours degree in Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, it was in London where I lived for 16 years where I learned my trade as a tech.

My name is Jimmy Donelan. I am an Irish Digital Technician who has been working within the photography industry for over 15 years. Working as everything from a studio assistant, lighting assistant, high end retoucher, photographer and digital technician.
​
Born and raised in Ireland, and with an honours degree in Fine Art from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, it was in London, where I lived for 16 years that I learned my trade as a tech, working on some of the biggest campaigns and in some of the most technically difficult locations around the world.
​
As well as bringing a fast, highly organised and technical workflow to set, it is my fine art and creative background that sets me apart from most technicians. Unlike a lot of techs who work by numbers, I work by eye, helping photographers, creative directors, and lighting directors bring their visions to life with beautiful grading, and stunning onset moodboards that have become an end of shoot must have for some of the largest agencies and brands. Also having worked as a high end retoucher for many years, I not only know the needs of a retoucher, but also have the ability to quickly comp together images on set, or remove unwanted background noise and showing mockups of what images can look like after post.

It is this mix of efficiency, technical know-how and a creative eye that puts photographers at ease, quickly removing the "new tech" concerns and stress that most photographers have when working with a new technician. And knowing that their images are in good hands they can relax and concentrate on making the images they are there to make.
​
Although I do still work in editorial from time to time, it is large scale advertising shoots that I specialise in. Working in studios and on location, I can tailor the kit needs of every shoot, and with over a decade of digi experience I have the ability to prepare for the unexpected.
